Fish Tales

The location is on the curved parade by the junction of The Quay and Old Orchard. We ordered six portions of chips and got them in under five minutes, which should have been a warning. They also wouldn’t serve battered sausages, presumably because they wanted to close. The chips were either half-cooked or fried into oblivion, with no proper chunky ones in any of the boxes. It felt like we’d been given the scraps from the bottom of the bag, and the oily aftertaste finished it off. I wasn’t expecting five-star service from a seafront chippie, but this was rough. Avoid it.

Service was really poor, and the chips weren’t good. The chicken nuggets had no taste, and the oil tasted burnt, like it hadn’t been changed in a long time. The mini chicken fillets were tasty, though, which is why I gave it two stars instead of one.

We shared a large cod and large chips, but were both still hungry afterwards. The fish had just been cooked, yet it was drenched in oil and had a really overpowering oily taste. The chips were greasy and horrible, and the large portion looked more like a small one. I’m not at all happy with what I paid. A waste of money, with small portions and a nasty aftertaste.

The service was prompt, but I won’t be eating there again. The fish wasn’t cooked fresh, which on its own wouldn’t have been the end of the world, but its thick batter was undercooked. The chips were soggy and oily too. It was probably the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. The staff seemed fairly young, and I found myself wondering whether they cared about the food they were making. The outdoor tables that used to be there have gone as well.
