The Ox has had a very nice makeover since I knew it as The Central, and we had a really enjoyable evening there. Seven of us went for an early Christmas work meal on a Saturday. The staff were warm and welcoming, just as they were when I visited before, and had communicated the menu choices clearly in advance. We ordered a mix of Christmas and regular dishes. Our food was outstanding, with generous servings and swift, friendly, attentive service. My pate, turkey and cheesecake were all delicious, and everyone at the table enjoyed their meal. Christmas dinners can often feel rushed and mediocre, but that certainly wasn't the case here. The long table worked well for us, and I couldn't fault the evening. Thanks to all the lovely staff. I'd happily come back and recommend it.

The wine was reasonably priced, which was a nice change, and the young staff looked after us attentively. My partner and I had the roast turkey at The Ox last Sunday, and both of us found it delicious. Everything was hot, perfectly cooked and really tasty, with plenty to eat. The cauliflower cheese came separately in its own dish, and it was included, not a mistake. There was so much food that neither of us could finish, so we took the rest home. We'll definitely return.

Beth and the rest of the staff made us feel like valued customers, even though the place was full and busy. The service was quick, and they checked discreetly that we had what we needed. Beth was especially friendly and professional, and couldn't do enough for us. I went with my family for Sunday lunch and the roast was the best I've had in a long time. The Ox has a warm, friendly feel and excellent food. Highly recommend, 5* all round 👍

We only meant to stop for a drink on Sunday afternoon, but Beth made us feel so welcome that we decided to stay for a roast. I'm really glad we did, it was exceptional. The staff were friendly and professional, which helped when we were a bit nervous about bringing a small child along.

The starters are a particular highlight at The Ox, with a good variety and some different choices. The souffle, arrancini and cod bites looked and tasted amazing. I've been three times in the last six months, and every visit has been excellent, with delicious food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. My mum had the roast and I had fish and chips for our mains. Both portions were generous and yummy. Highly recommend.
