YHA Dartmoor - Hostel

The hostel's spacious kitchen and dining areas easily fit several families and have a welcoming communal feel. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, and suited families and groups well. YHA Dartmoor is ideally placed in the heart of the national park, with convenient access to several iconic tors. Nearby Lydford Gorge is also worth seeing, with Devil’s Cauldron and Whitelady Waterfall making for an unforgettable visit. It's a highly recommended base for exploring Dartmoor's landscapes and natural beauty.

We spent four nights here and loved this spot in the middle of Dartmoor. Hiking trails start right outside, and wild ponies grazed beside the car park. It's very clean, and the staff are friendly. The accommodation is basic, but worth the price. The Wi-Fi wasn't working properly and there was no phone reception, so we enjoyed the digital detox.

We camped in the garden, with walks and the river close by. Great value, and having food and drink available made the stay really easy. Gill was very helpful.

It's an ideal place to get some fresh air, and we'll definitely come back. The lovely host deserves a gold star for her patience, helpfulness and cheerful nature. She went above and beyond answering our questions, helped us find somewhere to watch our family projector, and lent us a heater and an HDMI lead. Breakfast was yummy and plentiful. The property is quirky, with space to relax if needed. The self-service kitchen and sitting room were clean and tidy, as was our room. The only thing that would have made the stay better was a room closer to the bathroom, which is helpful with four children. A ground-floor bedroom would also work better with a pram, but the host said I could leave it under the stairs, which I did. The beds were comfy and the duvets huge and fluffy. I slept really well.
