That birthday weekend was meant to be special for our twins turning 10, but we left feeling let down at every turn. Our autistic daughter was especially upset when she arrived expecting the entertainment and activities we’d been told AJ and the team would provide. AJ had left, and nobody had told us. We’d brought a cake and candles after being encouraged to do so, so trying to explain the change to her was distressing. The site itself was in poor shape: the children’s park was condemned but still being used, the terrace had cigarette ends and overflowing bins, the touring wash sinks were filthy, and the open crazy golf course needed repairs. There was no arcade change for children because the bar was using the machine for bingo. Our pitch was steep and very uneven, with high curbs between pitches and a slope down to the electric hook-up. We arrived to find dog mess there, though we don’t own a dog, and manoeuvring caused damage to one of our alloy wheels. Reception couldn’t find our booking or tell us our pitch, despite it being made around 4-6 weeks earlier. They even asked if we’d booked the day before. We nearly cancelled after reading reviews, but the site reassured us everything was great and said AJ would help make the birthday special. Instead, the stay was one problem after another, and nothing like the weekend we’d hoped to give the twins.

The little shop was lovely, and the staff there were very friendly. The site has plenty of amenities and could be really nice, but there were too many caravans and motorhomes squeezed together, and when we arrived our pitch had already been given to someone else. Nobody offered to help. The toilets were a real letdown: they hadn’t been cleaned, and there was no toilet paper or soap. Bring cash for the arcades too, since there’s nowhere on site to get any.

The views were what sealed it for me. There’s a wide choice of options for different budgets, and they all come with those stunning outlooks. The place is so picturesque and peaceful that you really have to see it for yourself. I came to look at what was available to buy and signed without hesitation. Susie showed me around and was friendly, professional, patient, and never pushy. The whole staff were welcoming too. The facilities were lovely, and I could see upgrades and improvements were underway.

I’ve bought a beautiful new Abi Beverley overlooking Spade Mill reservoir and Beacon Fell, and I’m already looking forward to spending weekends here. I first visited Beacon Fell View in February for a break with a friend, fell for the view and the thought of having my own caravan, and Susie made the whole buying process a joy. She took time to show me a lovely range of caravans and lodges, answered all my many questions, and gave me sound advice while I chose my caravan and pitch. Her communication was open and natural, and she shared in my excitement. She still keeps me updated regularly with photos, which I love. Everyone has been super friendly and welcoming. The facilities work well for adults and kids, and it feels like a magical place. I’d highly recommend it if you’re thinking about buying a cosy holiday home or just want a lovely weekend away.

The electrics kept tripping throughout our two nights, causing a major nuisance for us and roughly eight nearby pitches. We also arrived to find someone already on the plot allocated to us. We’ve stayed before because it’s convenient for visiting family, but this time we were seriously unimpressed. The pitches feel too small, especially for caravans, and the pool has been franchised out, so we had to pay. It used to be free and had inflatables available. Now they charge £20 to buy one. We won’t be returning anytime soon.
