The food was the highlight for me. We had a delicious three-course meal on Saturday that went beyond what I expected, and both breakfasts were freshly prepared and included. The room was comfortable too, with a lovely view over the field behind the property. We stayed two nights over the bank holiday weekend for a Goodwood event, and the staff were friendly. I only wish we’d made it back in time for Sunday roast. I can imagine it would’ve been great. I’d stay here again if I needed a place in the area.

The manager and staff had done a lovely job setting up the tables and decorations, and they couldn’t have been more helpful throughout the evening. Our local WI group came to The Flying Bull for a Christmas party and had a brilliant time. There was plenty of choice on the menu, and the food was tasty, nicely presented and served well. Everyone in our group was pleased with the effort put in. We’ll be back next year. Thank you.

There are several good short circular walks nearby, either down into the Coombe or towards Liss along country lanes and footpaths, handy for walking off lunch with the dog. Parking is easy to get in and out of despite being on the busy London road. The pub is very dog friendly, with a carpeted eating area for people who prefer not to be around dogs. Food was good quality. I had beef stew and dumplings, followed by homemade sticky toffee pudding, just right on a winter’s day. There’s a reasonable choice of ales and ciders on draught. It was my local when I lived in Rake, and it’s still a nice pub run by friendly people.

The staff were friendly, and it was fine for a couple of nights. Beer and wine were fairly expensive, though. Breakfast was OK. We probably wouldn’t go back.
