Arkleside Guest House

I came for some R&R, but ended up listening to the gardener next door working away. He had ear defenders on when I tried to speak to him. I went to Hannah hoping for a kind welcome and maybe a “sorry about the noise, fancy a cuppa?” Instead, she was vile to me. I feel robbed. Terry, the host, is lovely, but I would never stay here again because of Hannah.

The breakfast was generous for £12.00 and kept us going all day. We could choose from a full English, eggs on toast and other tasty options, all beautifully cooked. There were two breakfast sittings, and preordering for the earlier one made things easy. Cereals and flavoured yogurts were available too, and the breakfast room had a picture postcard view. Our room was very clean and had en suite facilities. The hosts were friendly, polite and helpful, and left bottles of water and biscuits in the room each day. The standards, facilities and service were so good that I'd recommend this guest house to friends and family.

The walks here suit mixed abilities, and there's plenty to see and do, so it works well for couples or families. The surroundings are beautiful, with fabulous views and a relaxing atmosphere. The hosts gave us a warm welcome, and the rooms were clean and nicely presented. Social distancing was handled so naturally that we hardly noticed it. The food was fantastic too. You can book a room or stay in the amazing self catering annexe. Highly recommended.

We stayed in The Annex for a few days in September and would definitely return. It worked especially well for our family with a toddler. After a day out walking, we could enjoy dinner and drinks in the living room while the baby slept in the room next door, without worrying about waking him. Terry and Hannah were fab hosts and always available by phone if we had questions. I've already recommended the place to lots of friends and family.
