The views take in the village, cliffs, bridge and sea, and the hotel is ideally placed near both the pier and town centre. The staff were lovely too. It has a very English feel, right down to tea and biscuits served on silverware.

The room was spacious, the bed comfortable and the tea tray nicely stocked. Breakfast was good, with waiter service instead of a buffet. It’s a quiet, well located hotel with a comfortable lounge and bar, though the whole place feels a bit dated. The bathroom was large but needed redecorating, and the toiletries were basic while the towels looked worn. Some staff were friendly, but I struggled to get the front desk person’s attention once because they were focused on the computer. For the price, I’d have liked a little more luxury, maybe softer towels, nicer toiletries or newspapers at breakfast. It’s an old fashioned English seaside hotel, so the age of the building shows.

Room 34 had good views and was close to town. It was my first time in Scarborough and at the Mount Hotel, but housekeeping let things down. There was dust everywhere, including on the headboard, TV stand and curtains.

At £135 a night for bed and breakfast, it felt overpriced for what you got. The hotel itself was clean and the decor was in good order, though it’s an old building and naturally doesn’t look new. Breakfast was fine, with a limited buffet choice, but I enjoyed the kippers. The small TV and weak signal weren’t a huge issue, just a sign of the overall experience.

The room was clean, tidy and comfortable, the food was lovely, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Staying at the Mount really added to my holiday, and I’d gladly recommend it and may well come back. The same family has owned it since 1947, which says something about how well the hotel is run.
