We were here for a long weekend and are already planning another visit. The location, friendly locals, plenty of parking and attentive staff all made it a great stay. There’s quality beer brewed on site and great food, plus a gin still and a huge smoker on site that should add to the winning combination.

Don’t stay here. Get a pint, but don’t stay overnight. My wife and I were looking forward to it until we arrived and were shown to accommodation through a building site. The room was shocking, with a horrible mattress and black mould around the bathroom. £100 a night is a joke. You’d be better off in a tent.

After going around Wasdale, we had dinner here. The food was brilliant, and the steak pie is simply the best I’ve had. I love their own gin too.

We ate here twice while on holiday and phoned ahead to book each time. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient, and the freshly cooked food was great, served quickly in large portions and tasting wonderful. One confusing thing: Google Maps shows the pub restaurant in The Screes Inn, but it’s actually in The Strand Hotel directly opposite. We figured it out easily, so it wasn’t a problem. We only ate here, so I can’t comment on the rooms. This listing needs updating.
