Fernbank

The breakfast is still filling and tasty, though it’s no longer the full cooked breakfast the previous owners served. Each day you choose cereal, yoghurt, a homemade roll or croissant, plus sweet and savoury toppings. It arrives at your door in a picnic hamper between 08.45 and 09.15, so there’s no need for a hectic 7am start. Fresh milk from Island dairies is delivered daily, and every room has a small fridge for it. Liz & Graham made us feel very welcome, with a large pack of shortbreads and a fruit bowl waiting when we arrived. We’d thoroughly recommend this B & B. We stayed four nights and travelled around the Island by bus, and both agreed it was the nicest B & B we’d stayed in. The location works perfectly for bus trips, with the Old Town a five-minute walk down quiet streets for routes 3 and the seasonal Island Coaster. The B & B is tucked away on a quiet hillside with palm trees dotted about. From Room 8 we even got a glimpse of the sea. The rooms feel homely and have been recently refurbished. They’re spotlessly clean, with thick carpets and extremely comfortable beds.

Everything was extremely clean, and all the employees were cheerful and helpful. The rooms are cozy, modern and well equipped. Breakfast was delicious, and so was the cake we had with our tea. We’d definitely visit again.

Our ground-floor twin room was thoughtfully furnished, comfortable and right next to the swimming pool. We also enjoyed the classically furnished rooms for reading quietly or playing board games, with views over the tropical garden. We loved everything about the FERNBANK HOTEL. The attention to detail throughout our stay was excellent, and breakfast had a huge selection, cooked beautifully with perfect eggs. We’ll certainly return to stay in Shanklin, just a stone’s throw from the thatched cottages. Thoroughly recommended. Thank you Julian, Joanne and staff. FIRST CLASS.

We spent a week here in August 2020. The setting is lovely, close to old Shanklin Town and Chine. There’s a small but nice indoor pool, plus plenty of comfortable sitting rooms where you can spend the evening with a drink from the bar, or relax in the nicely arranged gardens. The staff and owners are very friendly and helpful. I’d recommend it and would go back.
