The Channel View Hotel

We spent Christmas and New Year here with our two children, from the 21st over Christmas to the 2nd Jan, and would definitely stay again. The staff were friendly and very helpful. They even helped carry my presents up to the room, which I hadn’t expected and really appreciated. Our room at the top of the hotel was very spacious. The food was great and they were accommodating for the kids. When they weren’t serving food, staff recommended other places too. It was a great value stay.

The breakfast was delicious, and the staff serving it were so friendly. We also loved the old-fashioned charm and comfortable beds. Some rooms have a sea view, and guests can use the heated indoor pool for free. The location was perfect for us, and we’ll definitely stay here again.

We had a clean, roomy bedroom with a comfortable bed, plus a good-sized bathroom. There was plenty of tea, coffee and milk, and the changing area by the nice pool was warm, with a good shower. Breakfast came with the stay and felt like very good value, with a fabulous range of food. The location worked well, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. We’d happily come back.

Room 45 was the one good part of our Shearings Christmas break. On the first evening, there was a fuss about sorting out dinner, and the belly pork I ordered arrived as a hard pork chop. The waiter checked with the chef and came back saying it was belly pork. In four days, Christmas lunch was the only meal we enjoyed. There was no wine waiter in the dining room, and the entertainment was awful. My partner asked the stand-in manager for a bread roll when there was a plate and knife on the table, but was told rolls were only for people having soup. On Boxing Day we’d forgotten the dinner time, so we asked the would-be manager. He said we’d been told at the arrival meeting and walked off. We won’t be taking another Shearings holiday.
