Jackie made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. She was such a wonderful, kind host, took an interest in getting to know us, and gave us ideas for places to visit. She was just as welcoming to our very large Labradoodle, who was excited by the whole new experience. Breakfast was quick and amazing. Jackie remembered what my mum and I had asked for the first morning, so we didn’t need to repeat our preferences the next day. She also gave our dog extra sausages on both mornings. It’s those little things that make a big difference. The guesthouse is in a perfect spot, about a 5 minute walk from the beach, places to eat, amusements and Shanklin Chine. There are lots of car parks, and clear signs pointing to the main roads if you want to travel outside Shanklin. We couldn’t fault the spacious room, with free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV with lots of channels, an en suite shower and comfy beds. This was exactly the place I’d spent hours searching for online. We feel lucky to have met Jackie, and I can’t thank her enough.

The rooms were very clean and nicely presented, and the host was pleasant and gave us space. It’s a good little hotel in a fantastic spot, close to the beach, town and other amenities. The fittings let the rooms down a bit. Some plastic bathroom shelves were cracked, and the plastic door handles felt cheap and old. The communal areas looked and smelled as if they hadn’t been changed since the 80s, so the place could use a bit of modernising. Also, calling the Wi-Fi free feels cheeky when you have to sit in the foyer to use it.
