We came for one of the evening meal events. There was a wedding reception in a marquee nearby, and it looked like great fun. The buffet seemed popular with repeat visitors, and there was plenty of food for everyone. One staff member said they usually offer a full selection of meals, but that evening the main course was barbecue. The food was filling and everyone seemed happy with it. A couple of buffet details could have worked better: clean bowls ran out while people were waiting, as crockery wasn't being replenished quickly enough. And the ice cream or sorbet came as a single scoop in what looked like a glass tea light holder. It dripped everywhere, amusing but not practical. Little bowls would be better. The venue is nicely presented, with lots of parking and friendly staff, and the events are fun.

The portions were generous and delicious, and the food was fabulous. I'm a coeliac and the staff were really helpful, guiding me through the menu and checking details with the chef. They quickly brought bread rolls for the rest of our group, then a gluten-free roll for me. It's not cheap, but I thought it was worth it. Lovely setting and great service too.

We had a relaxed Sunday lunch with four adults and four children, from 9 months to 11 years old. The older kids played outside while we had a pleasant chat and some time to unwind. Dinner was lovely, and we stayed for dessert. Katie/Katy was pleasant and accommodating. I'd definitely recommend the Sunday dinner offer, a nice chance to let someone else do the dishes.

For £55 for a double room and breakfast, this was good value. The room was a little dated, but clean, and the bed was comfortable. We slept well. The shower worked properly and there was shower gel and shampoo, though no hand soap. Breakfast was good. I had a full English, my partner chose a three-egg omelette, and there was plenty of continental food to pick from too. The grounds are lovely, and I'd recommend a short walk to the lake.

The restaurant meals were excellent and the staff friendly, which is why I've given three stars, but our room was a disappointment. We'd booked weeks earlier and were told we'd have a ground floor room opening onto the garden because we were bringing our dog. At check-in we were given an upstairs room instead. When I asked about the promised room, I was told someone was already in it. Our room was tiny and very hot, with just an inadequate fan for cooling and no opening windows. The included breakfast was a box in the room with a jam-filled croissant, an apple, a muesli bar and a carton of orange juice. We could have had the promised breakfast on Sunday, but the earliest serving time was after we needed to leave. We drove to St. Neots and found a very nice dog-friendly cafe. We cut our three-night stay short by one night, despite having paid already.
