The Old Masonic Lodge

Parking was a real headache, and the town’s narrow streets don’t help. That was the main drawback. The rooms themselves were lovely, with bathrooms finished to a really high standard, and we all slept very well in the quiet, relaxing place. Free, strong Wi-Fi was a big plus. The shared kitchen is an unusual idea, with self-serve cereal and pastries for breakfast. A cooked breakfast, either included or for an extra charge, would be useful for people who don’t eat cereal or pastries. We stayed with my parents and children while visiting my brother nearby. The hosts were welcoming and easy to communicate with. It’s a quaint building with just a few rooms, so the stay feels personal. It was the best place we’ve stayed in the area by far, and the room price was good too. I’d recommend it and would happily stay again. Thanks for having us!

Jean & Jez were such helpful hosts, and I can’t imagine finding better ones. The room was spotless, the bed very comfortable, and the en-suite shower room gleamed. There’s a lovely garden where you can sit with a drink, and the easy on-street parking was handy. Breakfast is self-serve in a spotless shared kitchen, with cereal, toast, croissants, and fruit. Tea and coffee are there whenever you want them. You can take breakfast back to your room or sit in the garden. For clean, comfortable, straightforward accommodation a short walk from town, I’d absolutely recommend staying here.

The facilities felt like a high standard for a place described as a budget guest house. Everything was clean, pleasant, and easy to use, and the bed was more comfortable than it first seemed. The host was a delight. It’s well placed as a base for Glastonbury, Wells, and the surrounding area, with even the Cotswolds fairly close. I’d definitely come back when visiting again.

Jez and Jean gave us such a warm welcome during our three nights in mid-April. They were genuinely friendly and looked after us so well. The Old Masonic Lodge is a comfortable, attractive place with everything we needed, and the price was very reasonable. It’s tucked into a quiet corner of the oldest part of Shepton Mallet, and makes a relaxed base for Bath, Bristol, Wells, and Glastonbury, all around a 20-minute drive away. Highly recommended. I hope we can return soon.
