We were four, and the starters were great. The pub itself was nice and quiet when we visited; with the fire lit and friendly staff, it seemed set for a good meal. The other two dishes, a small gammon and a small pie, were fine, and the sweets were great. But the two curries, one vegetarian and one chicken, were very poor. We should have sent them back or refused to pay the full £13.50 each. They were bland and certainly didn’t taste like curries. The chicken curry was watery and barely flavoured, and the chicken clearly hadn’t cooked in the sauce. It came with a spoonful of white rice and a very small, flat, bland naan. Thank goodness for the tiny pot of mango chutney. The veggie curry was just as bad, with no substance, just a spoonful of what I think was lentils in a nondescript sauce. The meal wasn’t worth the £150 we paid for four.

Breakfast had plenty of choices, and nothing seemed too much trouble. I only ate in the pub once, but the food was extremely good, with generous portions even on the smaller plate. The room was clean and comfortable with everything I needed, and the welcome at this lovely country inn was warm. I’d highly recommend it.

They were full when we stopped on the way home from Sherborne, hoping for a table for two for Sunday roast, but they found a spot for us. The customer service was excellent and the food was great. We’ll definitely be back.

On a dreary day like today, all I wanted was a cosy lunch in a cosy pub. Gorgeous place, lovely staff and delicious food!! Xx

We ate in the pub on Saturday lunchtime and found it very dated. The loos and furniture were tatty and need refurbishing. The food was pricey, came with a service charge I don’t understand, and lacked taste and appeal. Definitely wouldn’t return.
