We stopped in today after walking the dogs in the forest and were made to feel very welcome. There was fresh water outside for the dogs, and they’re allowed in the bar. The barman was welcoming and helped us choose from the menu. We both went for the pulled chicken main, then had banana bread and coffees. Great hosts, lovely decor and excellent food. Even the toilets smelled of actual lemon zest, not cheap lemon cleaner. A lovely end to a great morning.

The restaurant had only recently reopened, and it was a remarkable find. The whole evening was magnificent, from the minute we walked in until we left. The staff were attentive, polite, engaging and knew the menu well. Every dish was delicious, with nothing to fault. Thanks for a memorable night, and wishing you continued success. 👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The staff were friendly, but seeing another table moved because they were sitting at “the owners' table” felt embarrassing. I’ve worked in hospitality management for years and wouldn’t dream of moving paying customers just to take the best seat. The building and location are beautiful, and the interior is stunning. The food was competently cooked but often short on flavour, so the experience felt distinctly average despite the potential. The chicken liver parfait, soft shell crab with Asian slaw and lamb ribs with chimichurri were our starters. The lamb was a bit gristly, and its flavour came only from the chimichurri. The slaw was the tastiest part of the crab dish, while the crab was a little mushy and bland. For mains we had venison, pork chop and a burger from the specials, or bar snacks, board. The pork was cooked well, but the apple and thyme sauce carried most of its flavour. The venison was cooked well too, though the girolles and mash had no flavour. Oddly, the burger was the best thing we ate.

We left full and happy. I’d been unsure about the prices, but they turned out to reflect the quality. Thanks to Sam for great service. We’ll come back if we happen to pass through Whichford again.

We sat in the garden in the sunshine, looking over the Green, at this lovely country pub in an idyllic spot. The sharing platter was beautifully presented and delicious: homemade sausage rolls that were amazing, home-baked ham, cheddar and brie, pickled onions, gherkins and other pickles, sourdough bread, oils and salad. At £32, it was well worth it. There was a good range on the menu, and we’d have liked to try more if we’d been staying longer. The inside and bar were lovely too, and the staff were friendly. Definitely recommend.
