Sidings Hotel Restaurant

The food and hospitality make this a lovely stay even if the Railway side isn't your thing. Enthusiasts can happily geek out here, too. From the minute you walk in, Alex gives you such a warm welcome that you feel like the most important person there. Everyone we met seemed genuinely keen to be there and to make sure guests enjoyed themselves. We'll definitely be back!

Everything was cooked perfectly, and the food and service were first class. I had three thick slices of beef, with a huge potato tucked beneath the carrots, though the photo doesn't show how good it was. Cauliflower was available as well, but I didn't want any. Before lunch, I had a couple of pints in the relaxed seating area. A staff member brought my drinks over, which helped a lot since I don't walk very well. The waitress was polite and helpful, nothing was a problem. I hope she gets a raise. The chef may get a swollen head reading this!

The food was absolutely amazing, and the staff were friendly, fun, and couldn't do enough for us. We liked the cosy bar with its log burner, and the views out back were great, especially with the trains passing. The rooms are unusual, clean, and tidy. We'd definitely recommend visiting and will be back.

This is only about the restaurant, not the hotel or rooms. The place is beautiful, with lovely views, and the staff were very friendly. We had the mezze for two, which was delicious and beautifully presented. They were accommodating about replacing the pork with other meats and even offered extra complimentary items. Nathan was a fabulous waiter. I hesitated to post this, but the bill left me a little put off. The printed receipt listed £55.20 for the mezze and two soft drinks, while the card machine charged £64.35, with no explanation. I noticed the difference but paid without making a fuss. If a service charge or tip was being added automatically, I wish they'd said so, since it wasn't on the receipt. I would happily have given a £20 tip myself if they'd made it clear. The restaurant and staff are wonderful and deserve the best. I hope the billing is more transparent next time.
