The Glassworks

The room had everything I needed and more, and felt like very good value for the money. It was spotless, comfortable and clearly kept to a high standard. The bed was extremely comfortable. The man who showed me in was swift, clear and kind, and there were plenty of clear instructions on where to get help or find anything I needed. I'll stay again when I need to.

My sister and I came from Glasgow, travelling on Thursday night and reaching Shrewsbury at 7am Friday. Check-in wasn't until 3pm, but we were exhausted, so at 11:30 we called to ask if we might get in early. They first asked us to call again at 2, then, within ten minutes of ending the call, rang to say our room was ready. Amanda greeted us at the front door and showed us to the room. A couple of things were wrong: the sink was cracked and the curtain rail wasn't properly fixed to the wall. We could still use the sink and close the curtains, though. The shower pressure was fantastic, and the bed was probably the most comfortable I've ever had in a hotel. We'll be back next year.

The location opposite the railway was a plus, but I won't stay here again. The bar shown in the pictures was closed. We were checked in on the pavement, with no reception, dining or staff. This isn't a hotel, just a small room with an aged bathroom, though I should add it was clean. The room had a big bed but little space. The kettle sat on a base and wouldn't stop boiling, so you had to lift it off, but it was much too hot to handle and I had to unplug it. There's only a phone number for emergencies. The place doesn't match the description advertised at all.

For the price, location and last minute booking, I gave it five stars. Room 9 on the second floor was a decent size, as was the bathroom, and the bed was comfy. It was clean enough for the price, with towels and shower gel provided. We both slept well on both weekend nights.
