Savoy Hotel

The room looked tired and needed updating. There was no fridge, despite the hotel being advertised as four-star, and I hadn’t realised it allowed dogs on the lounge seats. On Monday, I tried to shower, but the water was red hot and I couldn’t turn it down. Someone came up from reception and forced the knob around, which let us get the temperature down. The next morning, the water ran for about four seconds and stopped. I reported it at breakfast, tried again that afternoon and got no water, then reported it again the following morning. On Thursday I was told at reception they couldn’t understand why it wasn’t working. They didn’t offer another room, saying they were full, even though the vacancy sign was in the window. All week, all we had were sink washers. Nobody came to clean the room. For fresh towels, extra tea and coffee or toilet rolls, you had to fill in a form, take it to reception and then they’d leave the items in a bag in your room. We were also asked to empty the rubbish bin and leave it outside the door. The entertainment was rubbish. I asked for the music to be turned down, but it got louder, even though he was playing to an empty room.

This was our third stay, but the bathroom really wasn’t up to standard. There was black mould in the shower cubicle, which was a complete no for me. Both the room and bathroom were tiny. We’ve paid the same price at this hotel for better before, which is such a shame. We won’t be back for a fourth visit.

We really enjoyed our stay. The food was excellent, though the entertainment was hit and miss.

The breakfast and fantastic staff make The Savoy a place we want to return to again and again. We’ve just come back from another excellent three-night stay, and we really can’t praise it highly enough. We’ll certainly be back.
