Tuesday quiz night at the Jolly Farmer in Warsash is our regular thing, and it's probably the best pub quiz I've been to. There are varied rounds, plus two bingo games between them where you can win a free drink. We had another great evening, with a really good burger tonight, and I hear a new menu is coming next week. Louise won the £350 pot on “find the joker”, wow! Such a laugh. Apparently there's a free buffet next week, so see you then.

Our friend from Germany had never seen a local meat raffle before, so getting one right as we arrived was a fun start to his first UK pub visit. He loved the homemade beef pie, and our double smash burger was juicy, well seasoned and cooked just right. The Guinness was a standout too, poured with a creamy head and among the best I've had in a pub. Everyone was welcoming, the staff were lovely, and the happy locals gave the place a real community feel. A proper old-fashioned British pub. We'll be back.

We held my husband's wake at The Jolly Farmer because it was his favourite place for a drink and a meal. The freshly made food was really good, with sandwiches, sausage rolls and chicken wings chosen from their varied menu. The staff were accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for making the day memorable.

The waitress was wonderful, and the pub itself felt light and cozy, like a proper coastal country pub. It was a nice place to sit and catch up with friends, except we couldn't get food. We went at Friday lunchtime with two vegans, I'm dairy and egg free, and my husband wanted something healthy and fresh. There was nothing meat-free, dairy-free and egg-free on offer, which would have worked for us and for vegetarians with allergies. We were the only customers, and this is coming up to the end of 2025, not the 70s. People want a break from meat sometimes, and visitors must be surprised by a menu that feels 50 years behind. They apparently have one vegan or dairy-free main dish when it's available, but no starter or pudding to go with it. If they cook from fresh ingredients, they have salad, vegetables, potatoes, herbs, spices, oils and stocks to work with. With Tesco, One Stop, Co-op and Waitrose nearby, it isn't out in the sticks. A proper working kitchen should be able to put something together. They need to meet the needs of locals and people passing through, or let someone else have the pub.

Debbie, the owner's sister, was so warm and friendly when I spoke to her. The pub is very pretty inside, and it's a freehouse. My roast chicken dinner was beautifully cooked, followed by crumble, and the prices were reasonable. They're planning to serve meals for much of the day soon. I highly recommend it.
