The accessible room for one person was huge compared with the double room, which was surprisingly tiny. There was barely space to move around the bed, let alone fit luggage or a dog bed. We booked both rooms for one night with a dog in each. On arrival, they were clean, fresh-smelling and in a newer style. Staff gave us a polite welcome, and the entrance on the first floor was clean and welcoming. The views were the usual city outlook. There was noise from building sites and people leaving pubs, but that's to be expected in this location.

This was easily the worst Travelodge I've stayed in. The room wasn't very clean, but the noise inside was far worse than anything outside. Doors kept banging, there was loud music and shouting, and it felt like a youth hostel. It seemed as though no staff member dealt with it all night.
This was the worst hotel my friend and I have ever stayed in. At 1.00 in the morning, halfway through the night, someone on reception gave us an eviction notice and five minutes to leave. We were left out on the freezing streets until early morning over allegations about us that were false. We felt judged from the minute we walked in, because of the age difference between us. I was there to look after my friend, who's dealing with serious mental health issues and grieving a family loss. He'd been in good spirits and feeling positive until this happened, then he became deeply upset. It was awful to put a vulnerable woman and a vulnerable man out on the street at that hour. The staff member showed no remorse and shouted at my friend for no reason. The behaviour was unprofessional and unacceptable, and I lost £82.99 because of this mess. I'll be taking it further to seek justice for us. Thank you.
The receptionist was friendly, and the hotel is close to the high street and restaurants. Our room was large enough for four people, though it wasn't very clean. The water kept making noise in the pipes for a while after being turned off.
The hotel's central location and reasonable price worked for us, and the room was clean and tidy. The reception staff were nice and helpful, and kept my luggage before check-in and after check-out. It was my first time staying at Travelodge in the UK. We'd usually choose another chain when visiting UK towns, but its Southend hotel is too far from the centre, so we picked this one. The price may have been good because our stay began on a Sunday. The entrance is behind the High Street; the side street from NatWest is a bit messy, while the route from the High Street is better. There were occasional bad smells in the room and corridor, and the toilet ventilation fan didn't work. Other things that could be improved: there was no hot water at the sink, though the bathtub was fine, the water pressure was weak, the 28-inch TV could be bigger, and there was no power socket by the bedside tables for my personal and medical devices. There are USB-A ports by the beds, but for security I prefer to use my own USB-C chargers. If you need a reasonably priced room in the town centre, you could consider it, but I'd read the comments here before booking.
