Travelodge Southport

We came as a family for my Grandad's birthday and had around six rooms. Every one of us had trouble getting into a room at some point. The key cards often took about ten tries, and some of us had to return to reception because we couldn't get in at all. The rooms were dusty, not properly cleaned, and had stained bedding. The sixth-floor door was broken and wouldn't shut, leaving the floor open to anyone from the street. At 7am one morning I woke to someone trying to kick in a room door a couple of doors away. They yelled and screamed for about half an hour before reception came to remove them. I asked reception to get the floor door fixed and was told someone would come later that day. A day passed and it still hadn't been fixed. I felt there was absolutely no regard for guests' safety. The hotel is rough as anything. Do not stay here.

I’ve stayed a couple of times because this Travelodge is dog friendly, but I doubt I’d come back. In my opinion, the rooms are poor quality, gloomy and uncomfortable. We used the accessibility rooms because my wife is disabled, and on our last visit the toilet guard was loose on the wall. Parking was dreadful too. I was told to leave the car outside near a bus stop. I also worry about guest safety, and the hotel's location doesn't reassure me. To me, it’s a cheap, low-grade hotel with poor service.

A Morrisons is just behind the hotel, and Southport's shops, including the famous arcades, are right nearby. There's also a Wethies about a two-minute walk away for cheap beer and food. For anyone interested in history, the frontage comes from Southport’s old Lord Street railway station, which closed in 1952. The room, 510, is typically dismal: the windows look onto a wall and the lighting is abysmal. Still, the place is clean and the staff are friendly. I like that rooms are only serviced after six days unless you ask, and that I can set the schedule using tags on the door handle. I see a hotel as somewhere to rest my head, nothing more, and this place does what it says on the tin.

It was my first night here and I was pleased with everything. My room was clean, and the staff were professional and friendly. Good value for money, and I’ll definitely stay again.
