The cooked breakfast was good, but there wasn’t much choice of fruit or cereal, and we waited ages for bowls. Our cooked food arrived before we could get cereal. The restaurant was hard to find, with no signs, and the one person working there was clearly struggling, though she did her best. We stay at Premier Inns often, but this one-night visit was a letdown. It was hard to find coming off the M25, the signs were poor, and the road to the hotel was more like a potholed track. The overflow car park was awful and badly lit. Booking the car in on the slow, unresponsive screen was difficult. The receptionist was okay, though not very talkative. Our room was fine, but the bathroom extractor didn’t work and water dripped all over the floor and us. Not one we’ll visit again.
We were here for our honeymoon, and Kazi and Patricia were especially great, along with the rest of the staff. We also loved the setting. The restaurant used to be a water mill, and you can still see its workings inside, with water running through.
Our twin room was pristine, and the reception staff were friendly and professional. It was handy to find extra tea and coffee supplies for the room. We stayed overnight on Saturday 11th October 2025 while attending a party in St. Albans. The breakfast room was disorganised and short on pastries and other breakfast items. Some tables outside and upstairs still hadn’t been cleared or cleaned after dinner the night before. We also had drinks in the bar on Saturday evening, but the heating wasn’t on and it was very cold.
On my previous visit about 18 months earlier, I found the place clean and comfortable. A couple of weeks ago, it was noticeably dirtier and more worn. There was litter in the car park, the road in was riddled with potholes, and the breakfast area was unclean, with the little food on offer looking unappealing. The parking registration screen wasn’t working. After trying three times, I gave up, then got a £100 ticket in the post the following week. I’ve appealed with my hotel booking confirmation, but I definitely won’t stay here again. I don’t understand the parking system when the hotel is in the middle of nowhere and people parking there are presumably hotel or restaurant guests. It feels like a way for Premier Inn to make more money.
We spent three nights here and were really happy with our stay. The hotel was spotless, and every morning Laura at Reception welcomed us with such a cheerful hello. She was kind, always smiling, and easily the nicest person on site. That friendly feeling and the comfortable rooms made a lovely stay. We’ll definitely be back!
