The worst place we stayed during our 10-day trip, and we were relieved to leave the next morning. I brought my 83-year-old mother on a bucket-list trip and was deeply disappointed. The reviews hadn't prepared us for what we found. There’s no elevator, and getting her up the stairs with heavy bags while she used a cane was far from ideal. The building felt more like an institution than a hotel, and it badly needs maintenance. The walls were battered, the carpets filthy, and there was gross mold on the bathroom ceiling. Getting into the very tall, slippery tub to shower felt dangerous. The beds were hard and made a crunching sound when you moved. The heat didn't work, so they gave us a dented space heater that cut my mother's fingers. I wouldn't come back.

We didn't eat here, only stayed in the hotel that's part of the complex. The location was good, and the room felt very clean, but it needed some repairs. Drywall was missing by the bathroom, with popped nails showing, and the toilet seat was partly broken and slid around when lifted or lowered. The tub was absurdly high and slippery to climb into.

For the price, you get a clean room in a handy spot just off the highway. The staff were really friendly and helpful, too. But the air conditioning was broken, and although I understand things happen, there wasn't even a fan offered. Breakfast was very limited because the fryer was broken, yet we were still charged full price. The bed wasn't comfortable, and sound carries through the thin walls, with all the doors slamming shut.

Mr. Callum at breakfast was excellent, and the dinner waitstaff were very nice as well. Great service all around. The room was quite comfortable, and I'd highly recommend staying.

We found Highland Gate, Stirling by Marston's Inns clean and lovely, just outside Stirling. Getting into our room was easy, and having electric vehicle charging on site was a real plus. Reception is at a nearby pub, but that caused us no trouble.
