Premier Inn Stoke-On-Trent - Hanley

The staff handled our complaint really well when I brought them the socks and water-filled balloon we’d found on the floor. They reimbursed our breakfast, which I appreciated. Still, I probably wouldn’t choose this hotel again if I’m back in Stoke. It was hard to find, with no signs, and although the room looked clean at first, those two items suggested it hadn’t been properly cleaned. There was just one pillow out, though I think there were more in storage bags, and only one hand towel and one bath towel for two people, even though extra towels were available in a ground-floor service room. We also had no tissues or decaf coffee, and just one chair, so I had to sit on the bed. The breakfast table was unclean and the shelves had a thick layer of dust.

The room was clean, well equipped, and good overall, and the staff were friendly and helpful. But it was cold at first. I set the heating to 24 and nothing changed, so after getting nowhere with an automated robot, I reached a person on my mobile. She explained the room was set to cold air and adjusted it to heat. After that, it finally warmed up. The extractor is another odd design. It’s by the room door, outside the toilet, and linked to the main bathroom light. Turn the light off and the fan keeps going for more than 11 minutes, which isn’t great in the middle of the night. There’s a separate small light in the toilet that doesn’t switch on the fan, so that’s useful overnight. As other guests have mentioned, there’s no window that opens, not even a fanlight.

We had a lovely catch-up with friends over a gorgeous breakfast, with loads of choice. Parking is allowed for three hours. Just remember to enter your registration number when you arrive.

The staff were wonderful throughout, welcoming, attentive, and friendly. I couldn’t fault them. The room itself was just okay. The sheets were clean, but the rest didn’t feel as clean. There was mould in the bathroom, and with the ventilation not working, steam built up quickly after a shower and made it feel suffocating. The windows wouldn’t open, so we couldn’t air it out, and the room smelled damp and musty. The carpets also seemed dirty and need a deep clean. It was the first time at a Premier Inn that I felt I had to keep my slippers on.
