Weathervane Hotel by Greene King Inns

The Sunday breakfast was lovely, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. We were welcomed warmly at reception, and the lady there couldn’t have done more for us. Our room was a good size and well equipped, though it needs refurbishing. We stayed overnight while visiting Sixtowns Gin Distillery, a few miles away. Road noise from the A50 came through the window trickle vents. We also had a couple of drinks that evening, which were nicely cold and great value.

We’ve visited several times and have enjoyed the food each time. Room service was very quick, and the food was great. Staff in both the hotel and restaurant were welcoming. It’s easy to reach, with plenty of parking, and yes, we’ll be back.

The staff at both the hotel and pub were really friendly. On our first evening we spent a few hours having drinks in the garden, then ate dinner at the pub. We had breakfast there the next morning too, and all the food was lovely with fair prices. Our room was clean, though warm at night without air conditioning. There was a fan in the room, but I didn’t realise until day two. We faced the front, so road traffic wasn’t an issue, although people using the front door woke us a couple of times around 7 or 7:30 on the first morning. We booked two nights because we wanted to be near Alton Towers, about a 20-minute drive away, which suited us well. It’d also work as a base for places like the nearby monkey forest.

The only nuisance was the people upstairs, who sounded like elephants, but that wasn’t the hotel’s fault. The staff I met were all friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, and the bed was comfier than the one at the 4* Hilton where I stayed last month. Breakfast was as expected, with no complaints. For the price, it’s a solid choice if you need a night in the area.
