We came with a big group of family for two nights at the end of November for my brother-in-law’s wedding. The staff were welcoming, but our supposedly luxury double was a huge disappointment. The room had no central heating, no extra blankets or heater, and just one pillow each. It was freezing enough that we were shivering in bed. Condensation streamed down the bedroom and bathroom windows, and the ensuite was very dated and below basic. The toilet roll holder was barely attached, the bath was slippery, and the water kept turning cold. We couldn’t shower on the last day. What should have been an enjoyable stay turned into a complete farce. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

The hotel is right in the city centre, with shops and businesses close by, which made getting around easy. My husband and I had a lovely stay at the Crown Hotel. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the staff were warm and friendly. There was a small problem with the heater, but as soon as we mentioned it they brought us an electric one. We had a great time and would recommend staying here.

The Crown has new management, and they’re clearly putting a lot of effort into bringing the place back to its former glory. It’s become a really nice place to stay, with lovely staff. The location is just right for exploring the town’s independent cafes and shops.

The beds were so comfortable that I slept all night, even though the room was boiling and I thought the heat would keep me awake. A fan or air conditioning would help, and the shower only had one setting, scalding hot. The rooms look a bit tired, though I understand there’s new management and hope they’ll improve them. It’s a great little hotel, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
