The Gatehouse at the Polesworth Abbey is beautifully restored, with real care for its history and natural character. The moment you step inside, that comes through. It’s also a lovely place to stay: comfortable beds and pillows, bathrooms in perfect condition, inviting shared spaces, and a very well-equipped kitchen. Father Philip is a charming host who can tell you a lot about local history, which makes a stay here feel especially memorable. I’m glad I keep looking for local places instead of hotel chains. Polesworth is tucked away from the bustle and noise, about a 30-minute drive from Birmingham. The village also has some of the best breakfasts I’ve had in Blighty, and the surrounding area is great for short walks and enjoying nature. This is one of the loveliest properties I’ve booked recently.

There’s plenty of history to explore, and the place is very well appointed, with everything needed for cooking and relaxing. The only drawback is the steep stairs, which could be difficult if you have mobility issues.
