The woman at reception was friendly and very helpful when we arrived. The room, though, was dirty, especially the bathroom, with several blood and mud stains on the walls and fittings. The mattress was old and sagged, and my family noticed a strong drug smell. They need to do better.

The only real downside is that it’s not a great spot for the town centre unless you have a car. The rooms themselves are great, though. Everything was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the room temperature was just right. The TVs were good too. The reception area looks a bit like a set from 'Prisoner Cell Block H', but that doesn’t take away from the rooms. I’ve been more comfortable here than in some expensive central London hotels. Well done to all the staff, and the reception team were friendly and helpful.

We booked one night in June 2025, but left straight away because the hotel was dirty and smelled strongly of cigarettes? and stale body odours. There were strange people hanging about in the corridors. We’d stayed in previous years and everything had been fine, so it was disappointing. We booked the nearby Holiday Inn for the night instead. It was fantastic, clean and welcoming. Booking Travelodge this time was a costly mistake.

The room was decent and the price was good, but this place hasn’t had the refurbishment other lodges have had. The welcome was dreadful. The receptionist was standing in the entrance having a sneaky cigarette, and I had to ask her to move so we could get in. She only asked, “Are you checking in?” There was no welcome or question about our journey, just silence while she found our booking. Checking out was underwhelming too. The staff could do with a refurbishment as well.
