The Horn of Plenty

We were won over by dessert after the Roast Beef, and it lived up to the standard of the earlier courses. Our starters were just as good: Salmon for me and Leek and Potato Soup for my partner, both delicious and beautifully presented. The friendly staff seated us at a table with a fantastic valley view for Sunday lunch.

The view from our table was lovely even in the rain, and it had been arranged so my wife and I could both look out. We were there for her 65th birthday, and the meal was a great experience overall. The receptionist was welcoming and informative, and after we called about being late because of the Tavistock roadworks, she reassured us and said she would let the staff know. Ellen showed us to our table and was a great waitress and host. The Prawn Starter was excellent, and the Turkey Main Course was excellent too, with more on the plate than we expected. It could have been a bit hotter. The Christmas Pudding dessert was disappointing, and the custard was poured over it without anyone asking us first. One younger waitress was a little rude when she reached between us to collect our plates while my wife and I were talking with our heads close together. It was a small thing, but disappointing after the standard Ellen had set. A Service Charge was also added to the bill automatically, without asking or informing us. Given the issues, we wouldn't have paid it. We'll be coming back, though. EDIT: Thank you for the reply, Owner. What about the Added Service charge?

Doug made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived and looked after us throughout dinner. His warmth and attention to the little things helped the evening run smoothly, with check-ins at just the right moments. The food was delicious too, made with care and devotion, and the flavour combinations were creative and unusual. Thank you for a lovely experience.

We dropped in today after hearing good reviews, hoping to check the place out for a reunion. We only wanted coffee and cake, but were left waiting in reception for no reason. Despite several empty tables, we weren't allowed to sit in the main restaurant and enjoy the view. There was no real effort to accommodate us, so we'll look elsewhere.
