The Shakespeare Inn

The sizzling dish announced itself before it even reached the table, and the fish and chips I had were delicious, with just-right crisp batter. We were staying nearby and were glad we chose to eat here. There was plenty of choice for all four of us, and the food came warm, nicely presented, and in generous portions. The service was prompt, courteous, and professional. We had an excellent meal and hope to return next time we’re in the area.

We came back on our second night for dinner after stopping in for a beer the evening before. The sizzler was a great choice: I had prawns with sweet chilli sauce, stir-fried with vegetables and served sizzling, with half rice and half chips. There are plenty of other dishes on the menu too. The staff were very good, the bar and dining rooms had a lovely feel, and some of the tucked-away dining spaces are especially cosy. It’s a welcoming pub where we got chatting with some lovely locals, and there are nice ales at the bar. I’d happily eat here again when I’m next in the area.

My 3-year-old loved the garden, especially the swings, slide and merry-go-round. There are lots of benches to sit on, too. The staff were really friendly, and the food was amazing and affordable. Would recommend.

We stumbled across this place while out for lunch, and I’m glad we did. The food was so good and clearly homemade. My two daughters and I had a great meal, and we’ll be back.
