Delightful 3 bed Thatched Cottage Near Winchester

The old farmhouse has some charm, but the cottage is very low, especially upstairs, so you have to duck when going to bed. The furnishings and hygiene were disappointing. Rugs and cushions were scattered around, including loose rugs by the shower and toilet, which didn't feel hygienic. The toilet was dirty around the rim and hinges, and the shower curtain had a very brown stain. There was hair in the drain from previous occupants. The lounge sofa sagged so much I couldn't sit on it properly. There were crumbs and other bits left behind, and the dishes and kettle were covered in limescale, with no rinse aid used on the dishes. The beds were either too hard or too soft. There was only one toilet, upstairs, and several windows wouldn't open. The house smelled musty. We saw plenty of spiders, large and small, as well as mosquitoes and flies, probably because of the thatched roof. If spiders bother you, this may not be the place for you. We went without hot water for four days. It turned out to be a wrong setting on the gas stove. The owner says our account isn't true, tries to downplay it, and claims there are no spiders or other insects. He also says we left the place dirty. He says we complained too late. We did wait a week, that's true. On the first day you think, 'That's a shame,' but the problems kept adding up, and eventually enough was enough. Don't be taken in by it. Hygiene isn't their strong point, and we don't understand how the rating is so high. Look closely at our photos.
