Perfect for a holiday. There’s a well-equipped kitchen, separate living spaces for some quiet time, and really comfortable beds with crisp white linen. The hot water was constant, and the towels were soft and fluffy.

We had a memorable weekend at Westbrook Court for a significant birthday, in a lovely historic building full of character and set in beautiful surroundings. Kari was quick to reply with helpful recommendations, and the cake and other goodies were delicious. Hay-on-Wye is nearby for groceries, and we ordered what we could locally to collect when we arrived. We cooked for ourselves, which was fun. The huge kitchen was well equipped, the range was easy to use, and we made good use of the tea urn. For 14 adults, the house had loads of room to relax together or find space to lounge. The atmospheric dining room had a good size and layout for a big group, and the undercroft was handy for storing our bikes. It’s a great base for cycling and walking. We enjoyed road rides over Gospel Pass and nearby, tracks across the Begwyns, easier routes, and walks on the Black Mountains. We also sat outside, played garden games, and took in the views.

There are five separate rooms, which made it easy to give the dogs space from each other when they needed downtime. The view across the valley from the outdoor dining area was stunning. It’s a fantastic, well-equipped property, and the host information was detailed and helpful.

We all had a fab time at Westbrook Court, which I booked for my wife’s surprise 40th. The house suited us perfectly, with nicely decorated rooms and generous communal spaces. We didn’t get around to the ping pong table or dart board in the barn, but the wood-fired hot tub was there too. Friends came from Devon, Liverpool and Kent, and the location worked well. We had a lovely walk up Merbach Hill, then stopped at the Castlefields pub on the way back. I also booked a private chef for Saturday night, which was awesome, and the lovely dining room and log burner made it brilliant. I’d highly recommend the property.
