Allison gives a warm welcome when she’s working, though I don’t know the other staff by name. There’s plenty of parking, and although it’s close to the Motorway, you can’t hear it. I’m a wheelchair user and the rooms cater for me well. I originally come from Sale, so I may be a bit biased, but I stay here two to three times a year and am never disappointed. I’ll be back.

The room was clean, the beds were really comfy, and I slept well until about 7am, when I could hear the person upstairs walking around. I heard it the next morning too, so the rooms clearly don’t have soundproof flooring or ceilings. The weekend stay was a terrible experience, and I’d absolutely never return. When I pulled up, the place looked abandoned. There was a musty smell, work was being done, and the reception staff were awful. I’d travelled three hours and just wanted to use the bathroom before exploring, not check in early. I explained I was booked in later, but the woman snapped that they didn’t have public toilets and I should use the place next door. When I returned 10 or 15 minutes before 3pm, I asked if my room might be ready and got snapped at again, this time about a £16.00 early check-in charge. I said not to bother, since I wasn’t paying £16.00 to get in 10 or 15 minutes early. She slapped the card down in front of me and told me not to tell anyone she’d done that. Then she kept pushing me to book breakfast even after I said I was meeting people for breakfast. I’ve stayed at other Premier Inn hotels and never had that kind of crappy attitude from someone who’s supposed to be professional. The restaurant badly needs a makeover and smelled rotten. I have an allergy and asked if they could accommodate it, but was simply told no.

Just as I’d expect from Premier Inn, it was good overall, with friendly, helpful reception staff. The cooked breakfast was hot and fresh, served by a friendly staff member, but took 20 minutes to arrive, so allow for that if you’re in a hurry. The black pudding was outstanding, the best I’ve had in a while. I also liked being asked if I wanted more, since it’s meant to be unlimited. The coffee was very good, as were the juices.

Breakfast was the worst part of our weekend in Sale for a rugby match, and we’d booked it in advance. On both Saturday and Sunday, the hotel seemed full but only one person was working. They were trying hard, but couldn’t keep tables clear or restock the continental items, and the salt, pepper and sauce bottles were empty. Cooked orders took ages and often came out wrong. I ordered the plant-based sausage and bacon on the first morning, but they were disgusting and inedible. The room itself was clean and the staff were friendly, but that’s about where the positives stopped. The mattress felt worn out, and the pillows were rock hard. Refurbishment work meant dust and a horrible paint smell, while the public areas generally needed a good clean. We often choose Premier Inn because it’s usually dependable, but this stay wasn’t. We won’t be back.

Leon looked after me in the restaurant, and his service was exceptional. He was warm, kind, understanding, knowledgeable and professional, and it was refreshing to meet someone who clearly enjoys their work and stays so positive. Promote him soon, or you’re missing a trick, and definitely don’t let him move to another hotel. Danny was just as welcoming and kind. He answered all my questions promptly and efficiently, and went out of his way to help after my cab failed to show for about 40 minutes. Thanks to Lewis, Danny, Leon and the whole team for making the stay so welcoming. With a team like that, I could’ve stayed all week. Thanks again to everyone! Sarah, from down south near Gatwick
