Falcon Inn

We left after dinner and drove home, thankfully it was only a couple of hours away. A nostalgic day out turned into a short visit because the room was so unpleasant we couldn't face trying to sleep there. The Falcon feels old and neglected. The floor and bathroom were dirty, and I had to brush things off the sheets. The beds were two singles pushed together, which wasn't what my sister and I wanted. The TV wasn't connected, so we set it up ourselves, and there was a can of fly spray on the table. The kettle was filthy outside, so we didn't use it. The towels looked clean, but the shower definitely needed a deep clean. An old fridge held milk, but it was so noisy you'd have to switch it off to sleep. We were told there was no kitchen at the moment, so cereal and milk had been left in the room. We thought perhaps the kitchen was being renovated, but it seems the place is just being allowed to run down. The bedside tables were scratched and patchy, with odd art on the walls. We booked one night by phone for £140 for a twin room while visiting the area. The woman behind the bar spoke too quickly while rattling off instructions, and we could barely hear her; she didn't smile or say hello. I can understand why she might be monosyllabic if she works downstairs in those conditions. At dinner, a lovely pub around the corner told us the Falcon was the worst place to stay and that the owner was letting it deteriorate. They may have had a point. Awful.
