Patten Arms Hotel

The breakfast was included, really good, and started at 7:30, which was great. The staff were friendly, and the hotel was very quiet at night. My room was clean, warm and spacious enough for one person. The shower was terrible, though, and I had to put up with it. I’ll choose the hotel again next time.

My train had problems, so this was an unexpected stopover. I was glad to have a roof over my head and a clean bed for the night. For £57 and a friendly hello, I can’t complain. It’s a two-star hotel at a reasonable price, so judge it on that. The welcome was good, and it’s two minutes from the railway station. The room was tired but clean, the bed comfortable, and the shower had hot water, which is what you’d normally expect. Nearly every floorboard squeaks in its own tune. It’s not the Hilton, and it doesn’t pretend to be.

The bar was well stocked and made a nice spot to unwind at the end of the day. I didn’t have breakfast there myself, but the smells from the kitchen were amazing. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. Fresh tea, coffee, towels and toilet paper were provided every day.

The location is convenient, opposite one of the train stations, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Without them, I might have left and paid for somewhere else. The room smelled awful and wasn’t clean, and the bed was one of the most uncomfortable I’ve slept in. There was no hot water, so I had a cold shower with barely any water pressure. The WiFi didn’t work in the rooms. I spent most of the night hearing trains outside, arguments inside, and what I can only assume was people enthusiastically enjoying their visitors by the hour. I’d definitely avoid it.
