The Nest Hotel and Restaurant

Next door, a loud domestic argument became our evening entertainment, clear enough to feel like front row seats. Nobody from staff stepped in. I even have a recording in case anyone thinks I’m exaggerating. The hosts made us feel like an inconvenience, with little warmth or courtesy. And the room looked as though it hadn’t seen a cleaning product in ages, with dust and grime giving it a distinctly lived-in feel. If cleanliness, professionalism or basic standards matter to you, keep looking. Chaos and attitude are on offer here.

The Bird family made the place feel so warm. They were polite and welcoming, always smiling, and went out of their way to make things good for me and my friends. The staff were amazing from start to finish, and the rooms were spotless. We loved every second at The Nest, the food was great too. I’d recommend it to everyone.

The hosts had set up a birthday table for my husband and brought out his favourite Biscoff dessert with candles, which was such a lovely welcome. Dinner was delicious, with a fish pie full of big chunks of fresh fish and fresh vegetables. In the morning there was a full English, plus a continental option with lots of choice.

I’ve been back several times for quiz nights, overnight stays and Sunday lunches, and the standards keep impressing me. It’s a warm, kind family business that puts real love into its service. I was sad to read a couple of the reviews that don’t seem to do them justice, though I wonder if being so popular means they can’t please everybody. Looking forward to seeing you all next time. If this isn’t in the running for a best local business award, I don’t know what is.
