The setting is beautiful and the price was fantastic. I spent 7 days here and loved it. The owner was so kind and welcoming. I’m already planning to come back after Christmas.

Avril looked after us so well, and was friendly and helpful throughout. We had no trouble with the water, and I enjoyed a hot bath in the evening. The house is full of character, stylish, and kept to good cleanliness and hygiene standards. I loved the view, especially from the back garden, which practically reaches the coast. I don’t understand the complaints that it isn’t modern enough. If modern is what you’re after, Glasgow’s smelly centre will set you back £150 a night for a view of the opposite wall or some pissing bums. Avril invited us back, and we’ll probably return one day. Either way, I’d happily recommend the place to friends.

The views from my bedroom window over to Arran were breathtaking, and the bed was really comfortable. Breakfast was amazing too. The house is totally original, which I loved, and it’s easy to see why the Guest House has won several high profile accommodation awards. Avril made me feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We spent a long time chatting about all sorts of things. I booked the Carlton Seamill at the last minute for one night a couple of weeks ago, and it turned out to be one of my best decisions. It’s a true gem, and I’d have no hesitation recommending it for a night or a few. I hope your fight against the Scottish Government’s proposed legislation goes well. I’ll be back for another visit soon, this time with my wife.

Avril was accommodating, offered us the main bedroom for the first night after a cancellation, and made us breakfast even though we’re vegan. The views are lovely too, with tables and chairs outside. We stayed two nights at the Carlton b&b while attending a nearby wedding. It’s a cute, cozy older house, but it needs some renovation. The bathroom faucet wasn’t working during our stay, and on the second night in the Drummond room we found animal fecal matter on the floor by the bed, possibly from a cat or dog. Avril didn’t really have a clear explanation, and the room smelled as well. Charming place, but the smell and mess need dealing with, along with some upkeep, before I’d give it five stars.

The beach is just seconds away, and the bedroom window looks out over the sea to Arran, one of the best views in Scotland. There’s lots of parking, and a wonderful full scottish breakfast is available. Carlton has been Avril’s family home for over 70 years, and it’s full of family history, a real treat for a vintage lover like me. She looked after us wonderfully. It felt like home from the moment we arrived until we left, and was such a pleasure to stay there. It’s the very opposite of a sterile, anonymous hotel. Highly recommended. Stay: September 2022. Tip: Chat with Avril, she has plenty of interesting stories.
