The building is old and quirky, but our room was warm and comfortable, and we’d definitely stay again. We were visiting family nearby and spent a night in a spacious, clean, quiet double on the top floor, with lovely sea views. The beds were comfortable, and the bathroom even had a spa shower and a built-in TV. Breakfast was lovely, and one of the owners took good care of us.

There was a damp smell as soon as we entered, and the cottage felt badly neglected. Paint was peeling, the kitchen and bathroom were very tired, and some window handles were broken. There wasn’t even a pint of milk or a basic tea and coffee starter pack. A very disappointing standard of accommodation.

We were comfortable in a very clean room with everything we needed, and the whole place welcomes dogs. The beach is less than a ten minute walk across the road, and the train station is under ten minutes away on foot. The historic building has amazing features, with a great mix of old and modern, and the period rooms are stunning. The interior reminded me of Bridgerton and Downton Abbey. Food felt rustic and homely, with huge portions, and all the staff were welcoming, polite, and helpful.

Moresby Hall has a lot of character, lovely grounds, and friendly staff, but several parts of my stay fell short. Breakfast service was polite and attentive. The sausage and toast were excellent, though the rest was average and the bacon was overcooked. I also missed having bottled water in the room, or even a large reusable bottle filled with filtered tap water. My night’s sleep was poor because the mattress was in bad shape, even though staff said it was already due to be replaced. The room felt chilly in April, with heat coming from a portable unit because of the building’s Grade I listing. The multi-jet shower looked impressive at first but felt dated and overcomplicated. The room’s soft furnishings seemed good quality and I was told it had recently been refurbished, but the carpet looked worn or unclean and the decor didn’t hang together. The restaurant and bar were tasteful and welcoming, while reception and the corridors felt dated, with mismatched furniture and muted colours. The historic building itself is appealing, but the inside felt inconsistent. Getting in was confusing because the small front entrance wasn’t clearly marked and there was little direction around the back for parking and access. The three EV chargers, including a Tesla charger, were useful, though £20 for overnight charging felt steep. Check-in was warm and professional, which I especially appreciated while visiting a family member in hospital during a difficult time. We were invited to eat at the restaurant, but its 8pm last orders didn’t work for us. I had also struggled to choose a room before arriving. The hotel’s own website had few room details and no clear photos of every room, so I had to use third-party sites to understand what to expect, especially since I wanted to avoid the top floor. Moresby Hall has plenty going for it, but more attention to room comfort, decor, and guest amenities would make a real difference.

Steph and Joanne made us feel so welcome, and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. We stayed with family visiting from Ireland and had a lovely dinner. The rooms are beautiful, with a fabulous shower and a four poster bed. Thanks for a lovely stay, we’d definitely recommend the hotel.
