The room was excellent, with views over the garden and lake, and Helen at reception made a lovely first impression by showing us around the hotel and taking us to our room. This was our first visit to the Cragwood, for three nights, and we couldn’t fault the hotel. The bar, restaurant and breakfast areas are in separate parts of the building, each with an intimate feel. I really like that layout. We used both the bar and restaurant, and their menus had all we needed. There was plenty of parking and space to walk outside. The staff were brilliant: helpful, chatty and attentive. A really enjoyable three stay.

We were given a 3-day/2-night stay at Cragwood Country House Hotel as a wedding present and had been looking forward to a relaxing break in the Lake District after our honeymoon. It’s only our first day, so we hope the rest of the visit is better. The setting is lovely and the staff we’ve met have been welcoming, but so far the stay hasn’t lived up to expectations. The first thing that alarmed me was a needle sticking out of the carpet in our room. I nearly stepped on it, but my socks caught it before it pierced my foot. That’s a serious health and safety concern in a hotel expected to be of a high standard. Our room looks over the entrance and car park, rather than the lake, which was disappointing for this special trip. We’d expected a lake view given the beautiful lakeside setting. The TV has no streaming services. In 2026, we feel that access to platforms such as Netflix or Prime is a basic expectation at hotel chains, especially one recognised as one of Cumbria’s best. This is a quiet part of the Lake District with few evening entertainment options, so watching a film in the room would have made a real difference. We stayed in Grasmere recently and could stream there without a problem. The receptionist who welcomed us was warm, kind and professional, and tried to find out if anything could be done about streaming on the TV. There wasn’t anything he could do, but we appreciated his effort and hospitality at check-in. Better in-room entertainment would make a big difference for younger guests and Gen Z travellers, since many people now rely on streaming to relax during a hotel stay.

The Cragwood team made our wedding in nov 25 such a wonderful day, and we couldn’t have picked a better venue. From our first visit through to the big day, the wedding team went above and beyond, and communication was always clear and prompt. Our guests keep telling us about the lovely interactions they had with the staff. The food was exceptional, and the grounds made a beautiful, whimsical backdrop for our photos, with so many corners and angles that every picture looked stunning, even in the fog. There’s a reason this team keeps winning awards for their fantastic work. If you’re considering Cragwood for your special day, we’d say go for it and say yes to the venue and team!

Amazing place, amazing Grace. I had an unbelievably good weekend at Cragwood for my daughter’s wedding. The spectacular setting, scrumptious food and incredible hotel team made it a magical event I’ll remember forever. Our wedding coordinator Matilda was tremendous. I also want to thank Grace personally for the extra care and kindness she showed my disabled mother. Everyone at the hotel is an exceptional professional.

We had a lovely overnight stay at Cragwood Country House Hotel. Our room had a terrace, so taking the dog for a walk in the beautiful grounds beside the lake was easy. The food was fantastic and delicious, with each dish presented so beautifully it almost seemed a shame to eat it! The staff were all friendly and did everything they could to make us feel relaxed and welcome. The hotel is in a great spot between Bowness and Ambleside, with a ferry jetty right next door at Brockhole. I’d highly recommend it.
