Craig Manor Hotel

We’ve stayed at Craig Manor twice before and liked the hotel and its great breakfast, so we booked again for May 26. The Booking.com listing for our deal said “Pay the hotel in advance.” Usually that means payment comes out about a week before the visit, but in this case the money was taken straight away. Booking.com says the description should say “Pay the hotel now.” We’re not going for another three months, and I hope the hotel doesn’t go bust in that time, or I’ll lose the money. I emailed to ask why they’d charged me immediately, but the reply was abrupt and didn’t resolve the issue. In my opinion, they shouldn’t have taken payment straight away. It felt a bit devious, and after this trip I’ll stay somewhere else.

We stayed here in October 2025 for a birthday weekend. The location was gorgeous, with great views, lovely interiors and a nice warm feel. A little plate of biscuits and a card left by the hotel in the room was a lovely touch. As someone who’d never been to the lakes before, I’d recommend this as a good starting point for a weekend. Local amenities are an easy walk away, and breakfast the next day was fantastic, with lots of options. Special thanks to Eduardo at reception, who was attentive, friendly and personable. All the staff were lovely. I’d definitely stay again!

We’d happily come back. The hotel is ideally placed for a short walk to Lake Windermere, and the free parking was a real bonus. Our bed was super comfortable, the room immaculate and the bathroom spotless. Tea, coffee, biscuits and a hairdryer were provided. Check-in went smoothly, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was generous, from a full English to lovely doughnuts you could take away.

We spent two nights here on an early bird weekend in November 2025. The breakfast room has floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows, so it was lovely to sit and enjoy the view; there’s terrace seating outside too. Breakfast was very good, with food kept fresh and topped up often by attentive kitchen and dining staff. They were happy to make eggs to order. Our modern room was very comfortable, and the hotel felt clean and well maintained. The residents’ lounge was pleasant, with a view over the rugby field and Lake Windermere about a kilometre away, visible while the lakeside trees weren’t in full leaf. It’s a mile downhill to the water’s edge and cruise terminal, and the walk back up can be tough if you’re less fit. We got a taxi back for £6, and there are plenty operating at busy times.
