Crompton House

The location is excellent, with easy access to both the lake and the shops, and check-in and check-out were very easy. Our ground-floor room was spacious enough for three and clean, but the cleaning missed a used water bottle under the bed. There was no shampoo in the shower, and the lights and TV didn’t work. We could hear footsteps from people above and the toilet flushing. It felt very pricey without breakfast, and parking was limited. There was no reception staff to speak to when we needed to complain. It may suit you if location is your priority, but those drawbacks were frustrating.

I enjoyed the stay, and the B&B is in a very nice spot. The room was nice and breakfast was good. Our room wasn’t serviced during our three nights; I assume that was because we booked through Groupon. The rule book also felt a bit unwelcoming, as though the owners may have dealt with some horrendous visitors before.

Breakfast was okay, though the smell of cooking fat and music that was unnecessarily loud took away from it. The hosts weren’t particularly friendly, and all the instruction notices made the place feel unwelcoming. We stayed in room 3, which wasn’t very clean. There was black mould on the window frames and curtains, especially in the bathroom, and the bathroom door had a hole in it, which previous reviews had mentioned.

The beds were comfortable and breakfast was okay, and the staff were really friendly. The rooms were clean, but there were some problems with the fittings: our bathroom was very dated and had a huge crack in the mirror. The old single-pane windows were cracked, their frames were rotting, and mould had formed around them from bad condensation. The owners’ dogs could be heard barking, with no warning about this.
