The Archway Guesthouse

Anita and her family made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. She showed us around, explained things clearly, and had the house ready with everything we might need, including plenty of towels, shampoo and bottled water. The place was clean and cosy. Breakfast was fresh and delicious each day, with a newly printed menu bearing the customer's name to choose from. Even with new guests arriving during our several night stay, the hosts kept checking in and helping us plan our days, including looking up live updates for us. There are lots of local guides and maps in the dining area, too. After a day out in the brisk Lake District air, the wonderfully hot water was especially comforting in the cold weather. This was my second visit to the Lakes, and I've stayed in several houses here before, but this was by far my best experience. Truly unforgettable.

Anita and Dennis were excellent hosts, and we had a lovely, comfortable three night stay in the Windermere room. It has a cosy sitting area by the windows, a beautiful mountain view, and a recently updated bathroom. The house is just off the Main Street, a five minute walk downhill from the train station, so we could walk to everything we wanted to see. We had plenty of privacy, though we also enjoyed chatting with other guests over breakfast. Anita had great suggestions for activities in all kinds of weather, and Dennis made a perfect breakfast every day. Try the Caribbean breakfast. We highly recommend staying at Archway Guest House.

The room was lovely, the location was great, and the breakfasts were fantastic. Denis and Anita were thoughtful and amazing hosts. We really enjoyed our time there and would definitely recommend it.

My room was immaculate, with a comfortable bed and nice linens. The view over the green space to the fells was breathtaking, and the almost brand new bathroom felt luxurious, with its giant shower. Dennis and Anita were such warm hosts, and Anita gave me loads of useful tips for getting around Windermere. This was the first night of my seven day inn to inn hike, and I was honestly sorry to leave The Archway.
