The George Inn

We only meant to stop for a quick drink with friends visiting from Liverpool, but the kitchen smelled so good that we stayed for dinner. The steak was tender, juicy, cooked just right, and delicious, with perfect chips alongside it. The Windsor and Eton brewery craft beers were tasty too. It's a lovely pub with a fantastic drinks selection, and the friendly staff made the visit brilliant. I wasn't sure what beer to choose, so the woman behind the bar let me try samples. I'd happily recommend it for a drink or a longer afternoon or evening with food.

We went last weekend and were impressed with the whole visit. They made us feel welcome, and the Lager tasted great. My partner really liked her steak pie, which says a lot because she's extremely picky. My pig cheeks were out of this world, rich and hearty, just right for this time of year. Bravo, we'll return and recommend it.

The location is excellent, less than a 5-minute walk from Windsor castle. The bed was fairly comfortable, the room looked clean at a glance, there was a TV, and the shower had good water pressure. But the stay was pretty poor despite the positive reviews we'd read. At check-in, three staff members talked among themselves about who had to deal with us, and seemed annoyed. They weren't friendly or welcoming. Their computer system wasn't working, so it took a while to check in. That's nobody's fault, but after a long journey it was unpleasant to stand around. They couldn't find our room, so they put us in an empty one, which may have been the worst choice. The noise from outside was incredibly loud for hours. We could hear staff repeatedly telling people it was their last drink, but it carried on. The window was drafty, which couldn't have helped. We know pubs can be noisy and have stayed in them before, but this felt more like a nightclub because of the noise outside. The room was run down, with broken light bulbs, peeling paint, and mould in the bathroom. It was very cold, though we could turn up the radiator. It wasn't a cheap option, and definitely wasn't worth what we paid.

The Manager recommended I try the Braised Pork Cheeks on this visit, and they were just as delicious as the Fish & Chips I'd had before. The service was impeccable, and it was a wonderful experience. Can't recommend it enough!
