St Nicholas House

We had a lovely long weekend and really enjoyed the Superior King Room in your beautiful 18th Century Home. The quiet location has open, unspoilt countryside around it, and the atmosphere felt calm, welcoming and very family oriented. Paul’s fresh cooked breakfasts were available each day, with a great fried egg, fruit, cereals, tea, coffee and fresh juices. We also enjoyed the Murder Mystery night and Christmas Style Dinner. The food was lovely, and the whole team, including Annette, Paul and family, were incredibly friendly and made us feel at home. Everyone was attentive and prompt throughout, with no waiting, and the room was cleaned daily to a lovely standard. They went above and beyond. We felt the price was great value for what we received. Thanks again, and have a lovely Christmas. We’ll be back.

The place has a real at-home feeling as soon as you walk through the main doors. The owner welcomed us and showed us to a huge room with everything we could want. The food was excellent, the bar was well stocked, and the mostly original decor added to the atmosphere. We’ve stayed at many hotels nearby, but none like this. I’d highly recommend it.

The house is gorgeous, and the room was warm, comfortable and nice. But the customer service wasn’t great. At breakfast I felt like an inconvenience because I’m gluten intolerant and vegetarian. I was briskly told we should have mentioned it beforehand, then told it didn’t matter because the owner is gluten free too and all the items are gluten free. They offered gluten free toast, but I didn’t feel I should have to take it, so I politely declined. At £105 a night, that really isn’t acceptable.

Our hosts were so warm and welcoming, and the room was spotless and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent quality, served in a beautiful room. The whole stay felt relaxing, and we also enjoyed Sunday lunch, which was excellent value.
