DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Woking

It’s a handy spot, about a five-minute walk to the station for a direct train to London, with quite a few restaurants nearby. The people working here were really friendly, and I liked the little extra of getting a cookie. The room was nice, though the shower was a bit off. The bed felt a little hard, but I could sleep on it and it was fine. I’d recommend the hotel.

UPDATE: After the second night sweating in the sweltering room, my husband managed to speak to someone who kindly moved us to a seventh-floor room. That one had controllable air conditioning and enough lighting to see at any time of day. The seventh-floor rooms are the “Deluxe” ones, and you’d have to pay double or even two and a half times as much to get one. If you’re booking standard, do yourself a favour and choose Travelodge or Premier Inn, unless you’re prepared to sweat. To be clear, NOT ALL ROOMS HAVE AIR CONDITIONING. The Director of Operations’ reply claimed otherwise and said it wasn’t available because of the cooler months. That’s a lie. DoubleTree Woking falsely advertises the room amenities, and you have to pay so much more to get basic air conditioning and lighting. They put two motorized fans in our hot room, but running them full blast just pushed hot air around and made the room hotter. After we moved, the cups and spoons in the cupboards weren’t clean. See picture. Honestly, I’m so disappointed. This hotel gives the DoubleTree brand a really terrible name. Original post: The rooms were hotter than I imagine hell would be. Air conditioning was advertised on the website and Hotels.com, but this hotel didn’t have it. There was just heat and a very small window gap for “fresh air,” as the concierge note at check-in put it. We had to call for fans because they refused to turn on the A/C. There’s very little light in the rooms, just a desk lamp and two bedside lights. If you need to work in the room during the day or evening, I’d suggest going to the lobby, where the air conditioning seems to work and there’s plenty of light. Honestly, Travelodge and Premier Inn are light years better than this DoubleTree.

The staff were very polite and helpful, and breakfast had the full buffet selection you’d expect. It’s a clean, modern hotel that’s well presented, suitable for a short break or a business stay. I’d definitely come back.

This seems geared toward business guests and aircrew, or people staying as needed. It’s in a useful spot, with a small mall nearby and the essentials around Woking’s residential hub. Staff are friendly and the hotel is maintained pretty well. The rooms are small, with little closets that suit solo travelers. Only one lift was working when I was there, which was a pain during busy times. Breakfast was decent, with a good range, helpful staff, eggs you can order from the kitchen, and an above-average coffee machine.
