The Indian food was the best part of our stay, some of the best we’ve had. We’d happily come back just for that. The staff we met were all really friendly, welcoming and helpful too. We were there for my partner’s birthday. The hotel kindly upgraded us to a suite and sent up a Happy Birthday treat, which made the trip feel special. The spa was relaxing, and the treatments were great, especially the hot stone massage with Kerry. The spa could use more seating, and a hot tub would be a nice addition. The steam room also wasn’t very powerful when we visited. Drinks, particularly soft drinks, felt expensive, but we had a lovely stay and would definitely return.

We enjoyed the restaurant’s Indian and classic dishes, nicely presented and served very well. Breakfast had a good range, including gluten-free options. I especially liked the apple and avocado smoothie. The gym was well equipped, and the pool area was clean. We were away for our anniversary and chose the hotel because it was near the station, as my husband was coming by train. There was a convenient car park with lifts and steps leading to reception. Keran checked us in at 2:30, recognized my IHG membership and wished me a happy anniversary. I met my husband in the bar, where we had a light lunch and coffee before going up to room 327. It had a lovely big TV. The road noise died down later on, but there wasn’t anywhere to hang wet towels or swimwear. We prefer sleeping with the window open, though with it closed, you couldn’t hear the noise. We’d stay again if we’re in the area.

I attended my mum’s 70th birthday after having a panic attack before travelling. I asked if I could change my booking because my anxiety was making it hard to go, but I went in the end because I didn’t want to miss an important family occasion. My first impression was poor. At reception, I saw a disagreement between a receptionist and a couple over their booking. From what I saw, they thought their booking was valid, and the exchange seemed rude and unprofessional. It didn’t feel welcoming. The room was extremely hot, and I asked for a fan because I was experiencing sensory overload. I was told someone would bring one, but it never arrived. A staff member later apologized and confirmed I should have had one. Afterward, I was told I’d declined a fan, which doesn’t match how I remember it. I was also left thinking my concerns would be looked into sympathetically, then got a very different response. I accidentally made a duplicate booking. The guy said he would deal with it, but he didn’t, and I never got a refund. I left feeling unheard and unsupported, and disappointed with how staff communicated and handled my concerns. For a hotel of this standard, I expected better service, professionalism and consistency. If you struggle with mental health problems, don’t stay here. I can’t reply to the post. Thank you for your response. I’ve edited this review to clarify that the booking was under my boyfriend James’s name. I’ve also sent several emails to escalate my concerns but still haven’t had a response, which isn’t good. I understand hotels can be very busy, but the way my concerns were handled added to my disappointment. More awareness and training about mental health and supporting vulnerable guests would help.

The food was master-chef quality, and the service was exceptional. My room and the spa were excellent too. The hotel felt modern and clean, and every staff member seemed ready to do their best. I stayed one night and it was one of the best hotel stays I’ve had. I’d definitely come back and thoroughly recommend it.

We really enjoyed the spa during our two-night birthday stay at Crowne Plaza Reading by IHG. The restaurant was the disappointing part, and honestly one of the worst dining experiences my wife and I have had. We had booked a table for 7:30 pm. At the entrance, a waitress named Liz told us to leave the restaurant and wait by the bar. She didn’t offer to ask a colleague to seat us or explain briefly what was happening. We had to walk out and wait, while the restaurant was busy and no other customers were being asked to do this. For a four-star hotel, I expected a warmer welcome and much better service. Once we were seated, Nirmal turned the evening around. He was attentive and professional, checked regularly that everything was okay, and made the rest of dinner much more enjoyable. Overall, our stay was good.
