The Sun Inn

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the place itself has a lovely feel. But we drove 30 minutes on a recommendation and couldn't get either of the two dishes we came for, so the meal was a letdown. I won't be rushing back. I’d phoned the Sun Inn earlier to reserve a table and specifically checked whether roasts would still be available when we got there. They said they were serving them until 3pm. We arrived at 2:30pm and ordered straight away, but the waitress came back to say they’d run out already. The chicken dish I chose next was unavailable too, so I settled on the rib-eye steak. At £37 with peppercorn sauce, I expected better quality. It looked like a thin supermarket steak, more like a sizzle steak than a proper rib-eye. The portion was so small that the salad option would have felt like daylight robbery at that price.

That real log fire made the festive setting even nicer. We had a lovely family dinner, with outstanding food, friendly staff and prompt service. You can always trust the sun for top-quality food and service. We’ll definitely be back!

Lunch today was fantastic, and I’d highly recommend The Sun Inn. We were seated in the older part of the building, which we prefer. The fire was lit, and the Xmas decorations made it feel welcoming. There were lots of occupied tables, but the atmosphere was lovely and the service was perfect. We were welcomed warmly, too.

The food was good and the portions were large. We hadn't booked for our Saturday night meal with five of us, but they found us space in the bar area. We were rather forgotten there, though. The service was friendly but very slow, and we had to ask three times for some things before they arrived. I didn't stay overnight, so can't comment on the rooms. I wouldn't make a special trip back, but might pop in if I were nearby.
