Ye Olde Talbot Worcester by Greene King Inns

Lorna, the manager, was a huge help arranging my retirement party. Organising 22 people and 14 rooms just six weeks before Christmas wasn’t easy, and she even got in touch with the local Travelodge because the hotel couldn’t fit us all that night. We had a fantastic evening. The staff were attentive, especially Nathan, who served our table, and the food was lovely. Everyone said what a good night it was.

The price was so competitive for Worcester that I was a little sceptical, but there was no reason to worry. The whole team was warm and friendly, with Lorna especially welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was huge and had lots of variety. The bed was comfortable, and there was a fan to keep you cool. The room also had a hairdryer, iron and ironing board. What a wonderful place!

Some of the rules were bizarre. During a heatwave, they initially wouldn’t let us put a guest’s insulin in the fridge, though they agreed as long as it wasn’t in there very long. The allergen list even said butter contained gluten! It’s an old building, so I don’t expect everything to be pristine.

The pub has no parking of its own, so you have to use the multi-storey next door, which cost £12 overnight. With breakfast, the one-night stay came to £105 and really wasn’t worth it. The room was dingy, dated and dilapidated, and drinkers in the courtyard outside the window were shouting late into the night. This place deserves an award, sadly for the worst hotel room we’ve stayed in. We’ve stayed in various GK pubs around the country, and this one was definitely the worst.
