Abbey Guest House

We had a lovely river view from our room, even with the river flooded during our stay. It made for quite a view, lol. Arrival was friendly, and the place is ideally set: an easy walk into town, but quiet because it's not too close. The railway station is nearby, though we weren't bothered by noise. For a small extra charge, you can leave your car parked for the whole stay. We were there three nights, couldn't fault it, and will definitely come back on our next York trip.

We used the downstairs guest room to have dinner and work on our laptops, and the staff were lovely and attentive. Our room was fine and had everything we needed, though it got a little hot. Opening the windows and using a fan cooled it down. The guesthouse itself is cute, quaint and well placed. From the train, the direct pathway takes less than five minutes, and town is another 5-10 minute walk. We enjoyed looking over the water at the rowing boats and city cruises, and autumn was a lovely time to visit. We stayed three nights between Edinburgh and London and would gladly stay again. The location made it easy to get around: the River Ouse is just outside the front of the house, with a lovely riverside walk into the centre. It's a five-minute walk from the train station, 13 minutes to the Minster, and seven to the local Sainsbury grocer. I had a view at the back over a parking area and greenway. There is a train line by the house, but it wasn't very loud or intrusive, and trains didn't run too late or too early. I was welcomed by George, the owner's son, who explained everything clearly and told me about the area. The room was spotless and spacious, with windows that opened, room to hang clothes, a fridge with bottled water, and a kettle with tea, coffee and snacks. The bathroom had a huge tub and shower, with plenty of hot water and good pressure. The bed was really comfortable, with lots of pillows, and the lighting was good. I didn't want to leave. Abbey Guest House exceeded my expectations, and I'd definitely stay again. Highly recommend.

The welcome was warm, and our room was just right: clean, with a comfy bed, fridge, refreshments and plenty of sockets for charging gadgets. Both the station and city centre are close by. A pleasant five-minute walk beside the river takes you into the city.
