Alcuin Lodge

The house was spotless, with distancing observed and an online form for ordering breakfast. Breakfast was excellent, and the home-baked treat each day was a lovely touch. Darren made us feel welcome and had things in place to manage Covid. It's in a quiet area, but the main attractions are all within walking distance. I'd definitely stay again and recommend it.

The bed was incredibly comfortable, and we loved the spacious, thoughtfully designed room. Breakfast was cooked to order and really good. Darren was professional and knew his town well. We'd love to come back.

The home-baked heart-shaped cake Darren left in our room after we got engaged was such a lovely surprise. We'd mentioned it at breakfast, and that gesture says so much about the warm, welcoming feel of this place. This was our second stay because the first had been so good. Darren is a wonderful host, and we also appreciated the location, facilities, cleanliness, and being able to leave the car there all weekend. We can't recommend Alcuin Lodge highly enough. We'll definitely be back.

We had a twin room, and it was ready even though we arrived early. It was spotless, had everything we needed, and came with tea, coffee, and a welcome gift of baked goods that could give local bakeries a run for their money. The Shambles was a 10-minute walk away. Darren was warm and helpful, shared recommendations, and even asked how we liked the new restaurant we'd tried. You can return late, as long as you respect the other guests. Breakfast can be ordered by 7:30pm for the following day, and the poached eggs were perfect. I hope to visit York again and would happily return to Alcuin Lodge. Strongly recommend it.
